Royal Lochnagar 37 yo 1972 / 2009 Whisky Fair 50.7%
Gentle age and old malt, polished cedar and oak, aromatic, dry and woody-resinous. Sweet incense wafting over mint tea and dry vanilla pods. Pastry cream and fine leather, so the old bourbon cask has well. Mineral oil, old dried petals and tinned fruit cubes. Gets spicy-sweet but dry on the tongue with toffee crisp and black licorice drops. Hints of dry soot on an old iron poker. And little old workshop notes. Clearly wears its age well, praiseworthy in every way. 89 pts
