Springbank 28 yo 1965 / 1993 Adelphi 50.6%
Ancient wood deeply polished with teak oil so that it’s bronzed and gleaming, but dry and aromatic. Let us place lumps of oily coal, dried ginseng root and old herbal teabags in it and leave it for decades to achieve a sense of integration to die for. Dried out earth and sand in crusted clay pots, and an old leather gloves to hold overripe figs and sticky dates starting to weep in the sun, fruity but just a little over. Match it all with a wonderful zing built of salt air, a drop of petrol and the barest white smoke. On the tongue it does a backflip and its the salt and smoke that arrives first, but the spread is all there to be had. Maybe veering off now into sudden bitter medicinal territories than the nose let on but its an amazing old Springbank found at the Oldies and Goodies stand at Limburg. Interesting old glue note at the end too. 92 pts
