Rosebank 30 yo 1975 / 2005 Silver Seal 54.8%
A Rosebank after the older style, not a direct lemon filled freshie, but one look at the vintage and it makes sense. Old damp wood, muddy clay substrate that’s a little grimey but redolent of wet earth and discarded lime rinds drying out on asphalt. Old empty glue pots all, cold wicks awaiting the flame and old sunflower fry oil. The tongue however is serendipitously phenolic, all on soot, unlit coal and dirty flints, finally giving way to hints of zest, mustard leaf and old white wine, the sort with a rancio-like oxidised fruit note. An intriguing old Rosebank that invites you to really dig in. 88 pts
