Glen Grant 30 yo 1982 / 2012 Clydesdale #CO681 51.9%
Strange nose! A touch cheesy, or perhaps lactic is a better word. It must be the sheer amount of oak tannins powering this impression. Very woody, but not in a pleasing way. Dirty stale cloth like a rag left in a corner, sulfur and dank black earth. Its a shame because under that you can sense the ripe orchard fruit and delicious buttery clove and cinnamon tarts under. The mouth shows better and it is there that these pleasing aspects of the oak speak first. Unfortunately it is not to last. This strange sulfurous cheesy dirtiness comes back soon enough. Yes not all old whisky is good whisky. 85 pts
