Mortlach 15 yo SMWS 1989 / 2005 76.44 59.3%
Meat like hung game or hams plus a deep dark sherry, a classic duo for Mortlach. Roasted nuts, lit charcoal, wisp of smoke, dark jams and cocoa. Honey glaze on a bit of charred rind, baked plums and a shot of some amaro made from cola, dried ginger, licorice and ginseng to chase. Big bold whisky with much to say and not shy in saying it. It remains dry and cogent with a good grip to the end. Like that suave debonair uncle who’s always drinking but ever sharp and never drunk. Mortlach is a great spirit and this was clearly from a good sherry cask. 89 pts
