Ledaig 26 yo 1995 / 2021 Oxhead #148 48.6%
Not the monstrous sort of Ledaig. In fact it’s not obviously heavy peat either. The peat does express itself through the seagoing hum of oily engines, lit coals, sooty metal grills and plenty of soft smoke and heat. But otherwise it’s really talking about sea mud earth on rubber, buttery baked fish pie with a burnt crust, seaworn sackcloth and old ropes. Lemon marmalade sits next to a glass of muddy brine, old piers in the sun and dirty nets. There is clearly a pensive weight wrought from this charming picture that makes this so natural and easy. Possessed of a quiet depth easily overlooked. Sunflower oil, drops of rooty tinctures and beeswax. I like this introspection very much. 91 pts
