A stunning array of hardwood oils! Pine, cedar, blackwood, all aromatic and sharp, dry but sappy. Dark and resinous. Flecks of soot and charred edges. Immensely weight and irrefutable depth. Precious oils, melted wax, rare resins, sharp bark. It’s all mastic and shellac but also dry leather, coal, and oiled iron in a undoubtedly phenolic sense. Wet stones dug up from the garden, and candied peanut. Yet at its upper register is dominated by dried fennel, incense smoke and drops of angelica and aniseed liqueur. This is a masterwork of great depth across the tonal spectrum it covers, with a dry bass, dense mid and bouncing herbaceous top, each casting olfactory shadows on each other as they play over the nose and tongue. A pure delight to nose and taste. I will admit it veers towards the papery bitterness of dried ginseng and angelica the longer it sits on the tongue, but nonetheless it remains a high water mark for Glen Ord. 94 pts
