Glen Mhor 34 yo 1982 / 2016 Cadenhead 50.3%
I came to this not knowing what to expect. Glen Mhors are just rare, but I didn’t leave disappointed. It is earthy, clean and lightly medicinal, well textured and filled with nuance in the mid to upper spectrum. No heavy blocky tones. Demands time and then its little intricacies blossom. And does it spring forth: Dry clay, old camphor, a pinch of ground up medicinal leaves and petrichor. Plenty of clean phenols like freshly cleaned grills, a lump of unlit coal, and something earthy sweet I can only think of parsnip! Here and there dried quince, powdered zest and slices of preserved pineapple pop up amidst the old sachets of ginger and chamomile tea, accompanied by hints of aromatic cedar and something pleasantly spiced like allspice. Hard to grasp but clearly excellent, and extraordinarily complex. 92 pts
