Caol Ila 21 yo 1992 / 2013 Dun Eideann #8247 56.2%
Expect quality, quality delivered. If anything I am surprised by how tarry and earthy this particular cask ended up. Many of these early 90s Caol Ila tend towards a coastal quality over overt peat, this one however can easily be mistaken for an Ardbeg of the same period, you know, zingy and maritime but also deeply peaty in a deep dark and muscular manner. Plenty of grilled meat, charred wood and soot caked grill covers. Oily black smoke, dry earth and dried leaves heaped on a nearby bonfire, then salt, lemon cordial and stinging air arrive. Meets that benchmark standard. 90 pts
