Ardbeg 1964 / 1995 Gordon & Macphail 40%

No doubt bottle strength but what an utterly glorious whisky. A deep and murky amalgamation of peat, tar, smoke, ash, dried purple fruit, old  rooty medical tinctures, old rubber and cold earth. In this category, at a level (or depth) only these old Islays can reach. The fruit does make a resurgence on the palate with plums, dried fruit baskets, licorice and it complement the deep deep earth with panache. Phenolic greatness. 92 pts. An ode to glory.
