Glen Ord 33 yo 1970 / 2004 Douglas Laing Ref 526 50%
An instant yes. Overflowing with amber and orange hues of dried apricots, marmalade, dark honey, ripe cantaloupe, marzipan yet also just slightly savoury with salty ham, sizzle of hot grills carelessly cleaned the night before and now smoking with a metallic sear and flecks of soot. Dense and thick but goes down more than easily. Aniseed rock, bay leaf, an open spice cabinet, warm and sweet yet also firm with pillars of oaky lactones, leather cream and suede. Like picking up a conversation with an old friend. Old Glen Ord is underappreciated even in 2024. 91 pts
