Irish 24 yo 1993 / 2018 Whisky Agency for the Whisky Exchange 48.2%
93s were rather uncommon. Alright, not exuberantly fruity in the style of the best Irish but fruity, only in the tinned peach and applesauce way. Perhaps not a fair comparison anyway – this is itself a beautiful whisky. Stewed stone fruit bubbling on greasy stoves, musky melons, crystallized ginger and hot shortcrust on oily baker’s trays. Metallic like a scratched tin, old raw pu erh, aniseed rock, peppermint and sunflower oil. Certainly weightier than most Irish, maybe it is this woody extractive quality to it, like cedar, dry bark and oakmoss. 90 pts
