Convalmore 31 yo 1962 / 1994 Cadenhead 48.9%
Entirely cut, sewn and finished from that old school cloth. Old rusty iron tools, oiled and cleaned, in garden shacks with grimey, earth-stained oaken potting tables. Sooty glass of cold lamps. Dry purples of dehydrated figs and dates in brown paper, smeared brown with fruit sugars. Very nice. Hints of dusty cocoa. Incense ash in cedar boxes, old maple syrup a bit like gula melaka, totally old fashioned. I will not deny that dry but rich is an inviting olfactory sensation never mind the contradiction. Some cinnamon and spice, some old ginger heat flaring up, like earing jamaica cake in a working garden centre and washing it down with an increasingly tannic black tea. 92 pts
