Bunnahabhain 1967 / 2010 Malts of Scotland #3315 41.1%
Not many malts are commonly available at this sort of age. It’s a big deal for Macallan or Dalmore, not so much for Bunnahabhain. So, 1967 and 41.1% suggests it was bottled out of legal necessity, but is it ready? Rather introverted and laid back for a 43 year old malt, but indeed ready. A fat oiliness that’s very Bunna, salty nuts, thin white smoke, vegetable oil and the fresh peels of sour green fruit. On the tongue, the same plus shaved coconut and some bitter burnt sugar. The lemon lime elements come through clearer now. It’s a weighty malt though could have developed more. On the plus side, no off notes, and by off notes I mean that lactic cheesey note that can be found in later years. To me the 60s were really the best years at that mouth of the Margadale river. 87 pts
