Blair Athol 23 yo 1993 / 2017 Special Release 58.4%
Powerful sherry driven whisky with notes of smeared blackberry jam, carbonised sauce pans, fire wood, sweet spice laden desert fruitcake with a burnt bottom, thick black tea, burnt herbs and charred bits on the leftover plate. That said it’s not particularly meaty. Prepare for a deluge of oaky tannins and woody spices on the palate, a drop of two of cough syrup, and some fernet. it feels like the Blair Athol is buckling under the weight of this sherry. 85 pts
