Clynelish 36yo 1972 / 2009 Gordon & Macphail Book of Kells #14301 59.4%
What we love about Clynelish is right here in this glass. Warm wax, ripe yellow fruit, hot stones and ceramic pots with sandy earth, clean and dry, baking in the sunlight. Big flavours, and perfectly poised. Hay, honey and pollen round out the warm hues, but also green tea, a bit of juniper and pine needles bring a colder earthy green foil. Lemon marmalade, a bit of dusty rye bread, clear resin and gentle gingery heat all the way into the finish. Superb, as Clynelish in 1972 is usually expected to be so. 93 pts
