Glenfarclas 29 yo 1966 / 1996 #6551 51.2%
Big boned Glenfarclas, you can feel the heft. Charred gristle and soot effect comes through, but alongside various honeys and earthy herbal tea. Sweet apricots and orange oil. Aniseed candy, cinnamon, molasses, chilled plum tarts, but also a savoury burnt vegetable broth. Quite some backbone! Plenty of bouquet garni, bitter burnt crumbs that you scrape off toast. Intriguing mix of sweet and savoury elements. But meatiness is not quite my thing, even so nothing to complain about in the execution. So we’ll say 90 pts
