Mortlach George Cowie 113.8 proof
A bit of a mystery bottle. I knew I had the picture for this but I can’t find it now, though I am sure it was this old lettering ‘Mortlach’ under George Cowie with a label that looks like this but 113.8 proof – that’s 65% today.
Now this is a beastly one and its not just the strength. Massive sherry and the whole shebang with burnt wood, acrid ashes, tar, soy sauce, bitter fernet, darkest cocoa, desiccated purple fruit. Gamey aspects appear, plus extracts of culinary herbs like oregano and sage. Sauce pans burning on the hob. Tad medicinal and camphorated. Fortunately juicy on the tongue but chased with copious amounts of black tea just skirting over tannicity. A sherry led beast. 89 pts
