To my nose somehow peatier and more phenolic than clarity and purity of fruit. On the flipside this one is certainly more robust than expected. Plenty of stove top scents which seems to ride over the delicacy of the fruit, and indeed playing whack-a-mole with the fruit, which does pop up – and when it does it is expectedly glorious. Sooty smoky coal fired ovens, spilt oils, grimey earth. Lots more wood influence as well despite being 18 years younger. Wet driftwood is found, salt crusted and perhaps trailing some gently decaying seaweed. Some toffee drops, cardamom and ginger with a leather jacket and gallons of menthol cough syrup and sizzling camphorous dry and oily peat. Great whisky whatever anyone says. 92 pts
