I have a thing for these ‘inter-generational’ Clynelish, and their sharp elbowed but uniquely individual middle child character. This one arrives all raw and bluster with petrol fumes, violet leaf and other cold kitchen herbs, cold chemical paraffin, sharp sand and granite dust. Time reveals a whisky as close to my preferred white wine as it gets, austere orchard fruit, stripped bark strips with drops of milky sap, sooty metal implements caked in dry black earth. Really rather sharp and austere, but full of cool minerals, chopped greens and paraffin. 91 pts but prepare yourself. Not everyone’s cup of tea.
