One does not come across 80s Taliskers at this age everyday and of course it will cost you, the industry being what it is now, but what about the whisky? I do find it utterly classic as can be. Cold salt air, freshly pulled sea grass, lemon pastilles, jujubes and menthol cigarettes in wool sweaters, salty sand on worn decks and distant white smoke evoke a coastal watercolour in subtle translucencies. Gone is the bluster but the spirit of Skye is not so easily banished. Dry roots, clumps of earth, beach huts next to tidal pools, some clotted cream and lemon sherbet announce the old oak. So! Saline, biting, salty, tangy and off sweet. Exactly the 10 at cask strength in old age. 92 pts
