I don’t think any other distillery has done as many old Japanese issues as Springbank. Overall this one leans rather clean and crisp, with sea air, brine, and lemon pastilles. But something here also reminds me of heavily toasted oatcakes and hot tea stems. It feels like it’s 5 seconds from burning. A halo of petrochemical fumes, old scratched bakelite, gritty polish, lots of salt and dusty cement round off the rugged phenolics. So, light, clear as a bell but with some depth. 87 pts
