So much whisky, so little time | Singapore | Tasting Notes

Laphroaig 12 yo 1984 / 1996 Cadenhead 60.3%

Things were a bit peatier in the 80s than the decade prior weren’t they. This is full on coastal Laphroaig, funnily enough not far from Caol Ila the decade before. Here are immensely medicinal aspects – iodine, antiseptic and cleaning fluid. But also peated malt bins and new rubber shoes, but far from the muddy or ‘overcooked’ Laphroaig we get nowadays. This one is thoroughly simple. Buckets of sea water, cut kelp, fish nets, unripe lemons, rhu khus and green bitters, but also rather raw and powerful. Could do with another 5 years in wood. 89 pts
