So this one has that Mortlach-esque sulphur that isn’t really sulphur, but good lord it comes rather close sometimes, at least to someone who doesn’t particularly care for it, like me. Here’s burnt hide, or sauces dangerously overcooked on sooty hobs. Vegetable stock, flames and dark rye bread but also butter and caramelising white sugar. Ben Nevis always has body. Slick olive oil and plenty of weight wrapped in suede leather, chalk lines drawn on sun baked rubber flooring. Big gritty malt with personality, you can see how it would carry a blend. 87 pts
