This one is from a time when Mortlach seemed to me to have less meatiness and more of this lovely dried wax polish on burnished dark wood, medicinal camphor, thin honey and herbal qualities that leaned somewhat medicinal. Nutmeg balm, chamomile, dried book glue, preserved orange peel. Big whisky for sure, full of ample weight. Perhaps just a touch raw and a little wild. Also to a lesser degree, there’s machine oil, workshop rags and a pour of unsweetened bitters. Rather dry to the finish. 91 pts
