Not to be slept on. Can I say fresh? Yes it’s old Caol Ila. Dripping with earthy phenols, dry roots, tar, black industrial greases and buckets of soot. But it’s also very zingy and salty with bursting sea spray, and more than a touch of iodine. Branchy leafy smoke crisp in the air. Sweet grass, wet sea stones, tangy lemons, fresh seaweed, crisp wintergreen jujubes and spearmint. Not far from the glorious 15yo. White ash and lit cigarettes. Clear resins and sea air. Immensely drinkable. 91 pts
