I really underappreciated the older casks Redbreast was putting out then. This one bubbles over with all kinds of unctuous delights. A viscous concentrate of purple and black fruit, molasses, dark cocoa but also drops of tar, cough syrup, cola, plus plenty of black peppercorns. The mentholated herbaceous quality here is not far from swiss cough drops (Ricola)with it’s pine, jujubes, spearmint and licorice. A fairly heavy whiskey – remember its Pot Still – but its red berry and coppery tang glints through the depth. The wood gets a bit loud though. 92 pts
