Turn the darkness up to 10 – unlit tobacco, black tea no milk, pine panelling rubbed with dark oil stain, camphor, dry leather and creme conditioner. Good choice to bottle this at 3 years. Old books and old wool. Dried orange peel and a touch of medicine. Frankly, despite its volume and youth its makes a good pour. On the tongue, its hints of absinthe or pastis, that is to say full of aniseed like aromatics, menthol cigarettes, unsweetened licorice. Only here do some hints of parched dry fruit and something raisiny come through. A miracle all this is managed without undue tannins pushing through, though about Kanosuke itself I am none the wiser. 88 pts
