Ok quick one, need to sleep earlier.
Young Mortlach this time:
Mortlach 14 yo 1993/2008 Duncan Taylor NC2 46%
Nose: This bottle really nosed differently the first pour and given a week with some air in the bottle. Sweet malt, bag of herbs and vanilla pop out. A certain rounded fruitiness, to me like ripe pineapple. Plus clove. Zesty after a while, and something between wet cloth and spent blanks.
Palette: Sweetish and very faint herbs again but .. bit of a pause here, then white pepper and a certain grittiness shows up, unexpectedly lemony towards the finish.
Finish: Medium, lemony, malt, umami?
Nice nose but the palette somewhat disappoints. Palette is not very expressive, though that grittiness gives it a yummy mouth watering effect. Having had the 1976, the Flora and Fauna, a couple of teenage Signatories, I find this overall not bad but could be better, or are my expectations for Mortlach too high?
