Fusel oils, tar, dark oily wood like teak, then a really salted ham and peat embers emitting wispy black smoke. A woody medicinal side like camphor and turpentine. Seems like this is one of the fat oily Ardbegs, and the mouth agrees, Muddy brine, warm stoves, soot and peatfire. Mentholated chestrubs, black olives and tobacco leaves, black resins rubbed into cedar boxes and black tea. With a nice salt tang at the finish. The depth of this whisky is apparent, and might have been glorious unreduced. 88 pts.
