Wouldn’t say this is explosively fruity but it is certainly deeply fruity along the lines of rich baked yellows and gold, like pineapple jam and an apricot and passionfruit compote, with honey and golden raisins. It is, rather surprisingly, more fruity than peaty on the nose and it isn’t till the palate where the heat of a small peat fire and white smoke rise, along with hot white sand, sharp and edged, meet an oily saline fluidity and the whole really comes together wonderfully. It remains a straightforward whisky, you will know it in a minute, but you will also greet it with the recognition of an old friend. Bowmore is good stuff, and don’t people know it. 90 pts
