Springbank 10 yo 46% ~ mid 2010s
It’s a lean sort of whisky that’s all very unoffensive though somewhat dull. It’s vegetable peelings. brine, burning butane, working machinery and hot flints wrapped up in a very presentable clean creamy wood and sweetly bow-tied with a thin Bourbon lace. Good for any occasion, and shows enough to retain some interest. 84 pts

Fair bit of wood here but it’s well done. Fresh cut roots being pull up by a chugging Caterpillar, roselle tea, hay, golden syrup and apricots on the nose. Very interestingly the palate leans towards fruit, though in a bright fruit tea and citrons sense rather than juicy tropical fruit. Add a buttery bakery in summer. Throw in some salt and a lick of smoke, but hold the Springbank sauce because this is a different sort of Springer. I will say it’s not the most vibrant though. 88 pts
Springbank 22 yo 1993 / 2015 The Bottlers #227 51.9%
This one is stripped down to hot zest and grapefruit rinds with a real flinty sharp mineral edge. Sharp and clean. Drops of kerosene.Touch of salt but edged with the bite of seaweed, parsley and mustard seed. Hot grills and gas fired boilers at maximum. Also much in common with other 90s Springbanks where the wood tended to inactivity. Touch simple though. 88 pts
