Teaninich 19 yo That Boutique-y Whisky Company Batch 1 48.6%
A gentle nose and a light touch with lithe and somewhat spartan scents. Soft warm wax, green scrapings and off cuttings of vines. Whispers of parsley and thyme. White stones in sunshine. Warm green apples and white pepper. A high toned aperitif sort. Simple enough, drink a litre if you wish. 85 pts
Teaninich 32 yo 1983 Adelphi #6738 47.8%
Not an easy one to understand. It’s not loud nor clangs with flavours that are love or hate. What it is is an introspective but superbly nuanced whisky that requires measured patience. It does reward richly with variable aspects that recalls a 70s Clynelish with minimalist precision. Hot wax, runny honey, yellow fruit skins, warm flints, thin earth and rubbed soot, gentian root, warm green fruit and angelica. And yet it lacks the weight and confidence of the same, offering instead a derivative experience, as if the very essence of Clynelish was re-distilled, leaving a tremulous image formed of smoke seen in a mirror, impossible to grasp with conviction yet intuitively beautiful. 90 pts
