Never know what to expect. Wet earth and light sappy smoke as if from burnt grass, withered weeds and branches. Chalky elements and charcoal lumps. Overripe pineapples beginning to ferment, and touches of farmyard even. While the nose is somewhat stubborn, the palate is fantastic with layers of soot, burning oil and cold machines in workshop, phenols on parade to an acrid smoky finish. 89 pts

It’s supposed to be an ex sherry whisky but almost no sweetness here as this one brings out the charred and burnt aspects of sherry, with wood char, tar, the thickest black tea, bitter cocoa, and just one smear of black jam. Neither is it overwhelming, here giving measured doses of liquorice candy, graphite, some sort of medicinal brews spiked with fernet. Somewhat divisive maybe, but a colourful experience. 89 pts
