Well. Floral sachets in old cabinets, touches of lilac bon bons. Dried petals in luxury potpourri. These words produce certain reactions but rest assured here they are gently palatable and many miles from the 80s at Bowmore. Continue with clove flavoured toffee, leather creme and vegetable oil. A herbal fruit tea and fair bit of sweet wood giving it bourbon-y elements. The floral qualities present themselves on the palate but elegantly so, and it remains reasonably developed and enjoyable. 86 pts
Glen Moray-Glenlivet 27 yo 1962 / 1989 Cadenhead 55.1%
The nose is exemplary and exhibits the complexity of the best of these Cadenheads. Just beautiful. Old oils, tons of resins waxes, old glue pots, hot factory, clean sweat and industrial lubricants. Match that with an earthiness that’s starting to get a little ‘ripe’, imagine thick leaf litter upturned after a storm. Many bunches of savoury herbs strung up to dry. At turns a little gamey, frangipane, old butter, a spice cabinet effect. A thousand glints and hues really, a diamond held up to the sun. On the tongue however, it is much less spectacular, and collapses prematurely before a monstrous bitterness like a sugarless marmalade, and a growing acrid bite. Tough but it’s 91 pts
