Springbank 21 yo 1995 / 2017 #470 Copper Monument 45.8%
Quite rich and rounded without jagged edges. The sherry presents itself with overtones of blackcurrant jam, moist leather but also resinous wood and sooty lamps. It’s a full bodied malt with a few drops of engine oil, some wet hemp ropes but a funky overripe fruitiness. Still relatively clean for a sherried Springbank. Loud salt and eau de vie notes on the tongue and then drying with barky woody herbals like tobacco and oregano. 84 pts.

Refreshingly clean and malty, zingy even, with touches of cold herb butter, paraffin, salty coastal moss and sea air. Those wet ropes again, dank earthen floors and must. Very interesting palate though, this one explodes with thick citrus peels, savoury herbals like sage and then bags of eucalyptus leaves, before returning back to coastal-musty elements. The wispy black smoke and dirty earth are more apparent on the palate too. The naked bones of what makes a great whisky are on display here. 86 pts.
