Dalmore 30 yo 1963 / 1993 Cadenhead 54.5%
Uncommonly old Dalmore. It’s an oily one with thick yellow notes of hay, nectar, almond oil and old honey. Clean metal tools and flinty earth presents a light phenolic aspect along with dry herbaceous cinchona, dried up citrus zests and white peppercorns. Actually more phenolic on the palate with some brown paper, used workbench and smears of soot and burnt wicks. Overall a somewhat reserved Dalmore certainly not the most lush one around. 85 pts.
Dalmore 1977 Glenscoma #12147 ’20 Year Anniversary of SCOMA GmbH’ 60.4%
Powerful, hot but also lean and somewhat mean. Candied ginger and candied peel, and again the sharp herbals of chichona, juniper, pine needles pierce the nose. Thin brittle resins, violet leaf and reams of new white paper – I suppose these are aspects of minerality. Also dust on hot lightbulbs and old plastic bits and bobs. Vague hints of blackberry maybe? Cuttingly acid but immensely muscular without a damn for your palate. Water is recommended for this citric sharp and angular Dalmore. 84 pts.
