Bunnahabhain 1968 / 2010 Malts of Scotland #12291 40%

A profile that is perfect even at 40%, which makes this a breeze right from the pour: almond oil, thin resins and mastic gum, salt tang and a sweetly piquant herbal edge. Great silky texture. A fair bit going on – dusty old candles, singer oil, old honey and dry ropes. Hints of olibanum (spicy-aromatic and lemon-esque!) and nutmeg scrapings are apparent. Increasingly spicy and dry on the tongue. 87 pts.

Also comes as a Signatory dumpy. Ok, not convincing. Wilting purple flowers. Damp mulch, shrivelled ginger, white peppercorns, over steeped and over tannic black tea. There’s quite some salt too, yellow pollen and coconut flesh left a little too long on the counter. Rather hot on the palate at 46% – zinc tablets, capsicums and a biting rawness. 72 pts. Nope.
