Jura 27 yo 1967 Stillman’s Dram 45%
An amalgamation of fruity, jammy, dark chocolate notes though it doesn’t seem to have the suggestive intensity of a first fill cask. Still great though, now the complexity comes to the fore with minty and camphorous elements, brown smoke and loamy soil. In some ways its essence feels restrained but it allows smaller tertiary notes to come into focus. Smoke, charred rye and mushrooms on the tongue, black tea and sweet licorice. Must have been a phenomenal cask but for the watering down. Still a good 88 pts
Jura 21 yo 1992 / 2014 Hunter Laing for FassZination (Vom Fass) #VF10272 46%
Not an ounce of shyness. Fresh cardamom and tough leathery leaves, fresh shorn ferns in woody mulch, gallons of nut oils. Jura’s always characterful. Bitter grapefruit peel. A sprinkle of mint and fennel here and there. Deeply earthy though not a trace of dirtiness, or funk as is sometimes found in these Juras. Feels like a freight train of eccentricities. 86 pts
