Bunnahabhain 30 yo 1988 / 2019 Douglas Laing XOP DL12821 42.6%
Big! Buttery malt, toasted cereals, rye flakes, baked nuts, all oily and delicious. Drily spiced with ground ginger, pepper, hints of cardamom, and even some orange zest. Palate is gently warming with woody spice, and becomes salty and savoury. There is a whisper of butyric like recently spoilt milk, a very Bunnahabhain thing, but it’s not really a problem here at all. A weighty whisky, oily and full on the tongue. 88 pts
Bunnahabhain 26 yo 1987 / 2013 Nectar of the Daily Drams for LMdW ‘Yin Yang Light’ 62.5%
Possibly one of the best 1987s out there? A firm and oily spirit, full of dusty spiciness on a bed of rye bread, toasted almond flakes, dry peanut shell turning a little smoky even, and this pervasive hefty weight from nuts and linseed oil keeps sloshing about. Earthy aspects show with vetiver roots, phenolic cypriol and black ink. Quite a multifaceted one. Concrete dust, dirty sand, and the white flecks of minerals. No really, it’s going places with salty gingerbread and burnt crust in the oven, capsicums, and burnt sage. Yin Yang indeed. 91 pts Thank you Dramsel.
