Heavily fruit, in oily brown tones on the verge of ferment, presents a dense nose. The musky fruit, like overripe honeydew, buoys the dark heaviness, here somewhat reminiscent of chiku and floral nectar. Yet a distinct salinity and sweet grass punctures the palate nicely and when that fog clears, other notes like metal and machine lubricant appear, along with sweet yam and geosmin. It does get saltier along the way and as such the wider picture painted is highly complimentary of the competing hues, leaving this one quite agile despite its obvious heaviness.  91 pts

Definitely an older style of Bruichladdich on display here – Dry leaves, a thin salinity, driftwood, dry clay pots, metallic flashes and lots of light waxy-oily lubricant notes. Utterly unrecognizable today! Wet laundry hung to dry. Salted preserved limes, the sort in yellow paper boxes from Malacca. Locals will get it. This is the sort of whisky that revives your curiosity in malt. Plenty of dried honeydew and sweet preserved olives on the tongue that were not apparent in the nose! A fruity musk lingers and weaves its way from the nose to the finish, popping up now and then to amaze. Absolutely an older style of Bruichladdich never to re-emerge. 91 pts
