Single Malt Irish Whiskey 30 yo 1989 / 2019 The Whisky Cask Company #16044/16258 48.1%
Certainly fruity, with a warm and musky peach juice and guava, yet again not explosively fruity nor juicy. Its rather a warm afternoon with shortbread and a fruit salad with honey drizzled chard, chased by a cold – and strong – mint tea, all while the lawn is getting a clipping and the metal blades of the trimmer are sparking against the granite. Oodles of playful character. 91 pts

A heavy dose of active bourbon wood is apparent, and here constructs a fortress of dark leather, creme polish and tree resins on a frame of dark hardwoods. Yes, surprisingly dark, with phenolic elements like soot, charred things and camphor. Unfortunately not the best look for an inherently fruity whiskey. The glow of the redcurrants and cloves struggle under the weight of the wood, and again on the tongue where the tannins win out handily. The whole is not un-picturesque, with the lifting effect perhaps of sunshine behind dark clouds. 89 pts
