This is a blend by Burn Stewart Distillers (Tobermory), the blend includes malt from Islay, and is in fact known to be a peaty blend.
Black Bottle, Fine Old Scotch Whisky,40%
Nose: Takes a bit of an airing and much sniffing to discern this one – I always have more trouble with blends. Am I spoiled by Single Malts? Right peaty blend, gently gently does it. Fistful of fresh earthy peat, wispy smoke (more like soot), drop of antiseptic. Pinch of salt thrown behind the shoulder, strand of hemp tied round a finger. Light touch here. Little bit of this little bit of that. Sounds wishy washy but it’s not bad. Lemon drops, white pepper, white tea. ‘High’ note of pears and citrus, there’s some sweetness here too. And malt.
Palette: Grainy. Sweet all light fruits, peach juice, light dusting of spice. Bit hot on the tongue, shows its youth. Ok wind changed direction and the smoke came back. Grain spirit back on the tongue. Rather simple. Ideal with ice.
Finish: Medium short, smoky, malty.
Decent blend, it is what it is. If neat, I’d still choose this over Johnnie Red.
