Longmorn 1969 / 1991 Gordon & Macphail ‘Cask’ #3716/7 61%
A bottle series and a fabled year, quite sure nothing will go wrong now. And indeed. Joyous, exuberant, and gilded with the goodness of life. This nose speaks of equatorial days and juicy tropical fruit at the peak of their ripeness. Almond oil and the crisp dried browns of desiccated leaves give it body and dimension. Also touches of sarsaparilla root. Thin medicinals are alluded to by the merest touches of dried mint and camphor; as well as a flintiness derived from the sour acidity of grapefruit peel. Citrusy aspects abound as well in this gloriously resplendent whisky.

This has actually got more oak influence, with a dose of peanut brittle, leather, cream and charred wood. Otherwise a heavier version of a similar profile. Which means some switcheroos like walnut oil, cement powder and dry mulch for bigger, dirtier elements. Heavier tannins as well and a bigger camphorous edge. Also black tea, licorice and resins. As a result and rather unfortunately, the fruit also feels less expressive though the citrusy elements do pull through.
