Longmorn 21 yo 1973 / 1994 Signatory #9279 54.9%
A deep yellow fruitiness blends beautifully with wet wool and rubbed granite. Aromatic earthen notes too in the shape of petrichor, tobacco leaves, stripped bark and some medicinal herb touches. The fruit isn’t poppingly tropical, it’s richly autumnal the likes of ripe plums and apricots. On the palate it is full and expressive with the tart yellows of honey and sour fruit, even green capsicums and spearmint tea. Hints of camphor. Excellent stuff. 89 pts.
EDIT : this review came at a time when I was transitioning from a linear scale score to points, and I’ve decided a few mistakes were made along the way. Like this great Longmorn, which really deserves 90 pts.
Longmorn 31 yo 1964 / 1996 Kingsbury #52 59%
Richer territories now with a veneer of purple hues, gracefully restrained. Empty jam jars, cocoa powder, figgy fruitcake and echoes of sweet desert spices. Some leather, cedar and light medincinals again – dusty camphor, mentholatum, clove maybe. Black pepper bite on the palate provides a not inconsiderable heat, along with the dry resins, and earthy-mineral aspects cap this off as a wonderfully dry but rich Longmorn that tends to subtlety. 89 pts.
EDIT : And this one 91 pts.
