Glenlivet 26 yo 1968 / 1994 Signatory #2821 51.2%
A gentle and soothing old Glenlivet. Warm waxes softened into an oily pliability, elegant with light honeyed touches, poached syrup and stonefruit, and the merest suggestion of cardamom and something a bit darker and spicier like rye. Clean stoneware, nondescript floral overtones of nectar and dusty pollen. Slightly zestier on the palate. Unburdened and unhurried but far from aimless, a pleasing and ageless profile. 84 pts.
Glen Grant 25 yo 1976 / 2001 Signatory #2889 58.2%
Big rich dessert-spicy nose from a real old sherry butt. Praline, heaps of cocoa, black jams, plum skins and some berry compote. Also charcoal, a bit of burnt ends, and even a tiny drop of hot tar. Drying oak and tannic on the tongue but in pleasing puckering way, not yet overbearing. Cloves, cinnamon, black pepper and oak panels full of peeling lacquer. Not an aggressive sherry by any regards, nor very complex at that, and the oak gets quite loud towards the end. 85 pts.
