Aultmore 2005 / 2018 Gordon & Macphail #15601007 for Whiskywarehouse Exclusive 54.1%
Young ready whisky. Drinkable now or after another 20 years in the cask. Toasty. Fresh malty flavours full butter and dry chewy rye. Dry dusty character emerging with fennel and ginger cubes. Simple basic stuff. Shots or ice. 82 pts
Aultmore 25 yo 46% ~ 2014 bottling
It’s a heavy sherry maturation of a modern template that is immediately recognizable. Fair but generic, and rather indistinguishable from similar modern ex sherry releases. Cocoa powder, dark jam, baked raisins, a bit of smoky firewood, burnt gristle, seared pans. Tad chunky. Drop of tar, burnt glazing. Somewhat more acrid on the tongue as it wanders blindly from an already dry sherry to rather meaty and burnt tones. Tannic. 85 pts
