Glen Garioch 21 yo 1995 Old Particular Douglas Laing #11471 51.5%
A very particular style I love coming back to recalibrate on. Bursting lime peel, battery acid, mineral oil, chalk and clay, granite and the cleanest earth with hints of petrichor. Add cold charcoal and little sooty touches. Sour green apple slices and green kiwis. Not a lush style at all. In fact a rather cutting and austere profile makes it one for true enthusiasts. Also does best in ex-bourbon, with as little oak as possible. 88 pts

The same style except the acidity and sharpness is turned up, and this one doesn’t have the padding #11471 had. Sharp and straight to the bone without the give of any of the thinnest oils. Glows white on the tongue with Mentholatum, Tabasco, sharp juniper and angelica. However, it’s entirely front loaded, with the magic at first sip, but somehow missing some depth as if all top notes and missing some heavier notes. Nonetheless what it does it does well. 87 pts
