Linkwood 13 yo 1999 Berry Bros #11969 56.8%
Barley sugar and molten candy at hard ball stage. Dusty grains, malt and museli. So its a young, fresh faced malt that hasn’t weathered time or been much polished by the inside of a cask yet. Hints of oregano flakes, stripped vegetable pith and toasted rye flakes. Pepper sauce and capsicums on the tongue. Young and strapping. 85 pts

Another world. It’s a bold muscular sherry with smoked meats, grits, burnt sauces made from caramelised sugar, loads of sweet spices and Worcestershire. Thick, jammy, rich but dry. Some motor oil, hot wax and molten chocolate, but also wood char. Make no mistake its all about sherry here, but the woodiness remains well controlled. Turns very dry towards the finish, with quite the bite from herbal bitters and soot on hot grills. Just excellent. 90 pts
