Rosebank 21 yo The Whisky Exchange 48% vs Rosebank 25 61.4%

Rosebank 21 yo The Whisky Exchange 48%

A fresh and light sort of Rosebank from the later years. Sweet and gently malty, rolling in rock candy, vanilla pods, barley sugar and lemon zest. Also a touch of spinach and the littlest drop of singer oil at the back of the nose. Very pleasing and mindlessly drinkable. 87 pts

Rosebank 25 yo 1981 / 2007 Special Release 61.4%

One of the strange occurrences where the sherry and whisky have combined to suggest old style notes without actually feeling ‘old’. This one is certainly more nuanced: Crystallised oranges, palm sugar and tea. Old lubricants, metal polish and old earth, now is that the cask or the Rosebank, old leafy vegetables wilted in the fridge. The sherry is dry and not exceedingly rich, rather more leathery and with rancio notes, and some alchemy thereof results in burnt tones, metallic zing and bark tea on the palate. Demands attention and certainly not a mindless drinker. 88 pts
